Denis J. Butler is a Partner serving as Senior Adviser to clients on Public Affairs. Denis joined the firm after serving as a Member of the New York State Assembly for 25 years, representing parts of Queens County, New York. Denis retired from the legislature following a distinguished career where he was Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore of New York’s lower house of the legislature. In his leadership capacity, Mr. Butler chaired the Queens County legislative delegation and served on the Executive Committee of the Eastern Regional Conference of the Council of State Governments.

In the legislature, Mr. Butler was senior member of the Assembly Labor Committee, Chairman of the Assembly Subcommittee on the Special Problems of the Aging and senior member of the Aging Committee. Mr. Butler also served on the powerful Rules, Economic Development, Oversight Analysis, and Investigations Committee; and on the Joint Budget Committee on Higher Education. In these roles, Denis is credited with both the development and passage of major pieces of legislation affecting labor, employment, wages, disability, workers compensation, economic development, education, the environment, prescription drug regulations, and the elderly, among others.
